Materials
We use a combination of different material constructions in our current Jewelry range such as Sterling Silver, Gold fill and Gold Plating. Each material is unique in appearance, durability and care requirements. Our products include the Material used as well as Unique Care instructions in each product description. Below is a guide sharing a more in-depth look into the qualities and differences of each material we currently use in our Jewelry range.
STERLING SILVER
Sterling Silver is an alloyed form of Silver that is suitable for Jewelry and fine metalwork. Sterling silver, although a softer material is a popular high quality non-tarnishing silver material. The most functional Silver Jewelry is generally 92.5% pure, that means only 7.5% of the mixture is another metal. This is the perfect percentage for the durability and flexibility of the material in jewelry making. Generally speaking Sterling Silver is an extremely durable form of silver that should not tarnish with general daily wear, however, specific environmental factors like humidity and skin oils can impact rare tarnishing or slight discolouration in sterling silver jewelry.
Care Instructions: Can be left on in water. We do always recommend to take your jewelry off in water to discourage any fading or discolouration and to prolong the life of your piece, however, with this material we often dismiss this rule
Understanding Different types of Gold Jewelry
Specialising in Gold, we aim to continuously provide a diverse range of Gold Product. You might be wondering what the differences are between Solid Gold, Gold Filled and Gold Plated? We've broken it down for you.

Gold Plating consists of a thin layer of gold being applied and bonded over a base metal. This layer is thin enough to be considered an unmeasurable amount of Gold. This may sound undesirable and if you're after longevity in your jewelry pieces gold plating might not be for you, however, there are positives to gold filled jewelry. Being the most affordable variation of gold it is easier to build up an interchangeable collection and experiment with your style. We also use the highest grade of gold plating ensuring that if your designs are taken off in water and they have the ability to remain untarnished for up to 5 years. A lot of our Gem Stone Findings are made with Gold Plating, these findings are sometimes used in our pieces in conjunction with Gold filled findings and are recommended to be worn and cared for with extra love and attention. We have included Gold Plating in our range to diversify and accomodate more affordable options for our customers who may have the intention of wearing their Flow State Jewelry pieces more sporadically.
Care Instructions: Take off when exposed to water, consistent and prolonged everyday wear may lead to tarnishing
GOLD FILL
Majority of our Gold range consists of Gold Filled pieces after the Founders love for Jewelry was born through discovering this affordable high quality alternative to Solid Gold. Gold fill is a thick layer of Solid Gold (14K, 12K, or 18K) sheets bonded around the outside of a base metal, the process of constructing this form of Gold involves a large amount of heat and pressure. Gold Fill contains 100x more Gold alloy than Gold Plating and due to the thickness of the Gold Alloy layer each Gold Filled piece is made to be 10x more durable than Gold Plating. Gold Filled Jewelry can be worn in water, however if you've read that Gold Fill doesn't change in appearance at all with wear, you are being lied to. Slight discolouration does occur over time due to daily wear and exposure to the elements. This discolouration is minor and is not the same as the discolouration that occurs with Gold Plating. If you are wanting to keep your Gold Filled piece at the highest possible condition we recommend taking it off in the ocean, during long periods of sun exposure, when applying perfume, when exposed to oils and harsh chemicals and anytime it may be submerged in water for long periods of time. Although these precautions are not necessary they will contribute in the longevity of flawless looking Gold. As a second best option to Solid Gold, Gold Filled Jewelry is the perfect everyday option and with the right love and care, can last a lifetime.
